Ohh Yea

The doctor just checked Erica, and good things are happening.

She's fully effaced and 4 centimeters.

Contractions are 2 min apart so Sarah thinks this will probably progress fairly quickly, several hours.

Lots of smiles all around, most importantly from Erica.

Stay tuned ...

Gazongkenhoffer

Last night before bed, we had a big laugh over Laura's spontaneous word for awesome sleep: "gazongkenhoffer".

Amazingly, that's pretty much what happend.

Erica got about 4 1/2 hours of deep sleep, broken up into two parts, which is pretty good for a woman in labor. She and Laura had some avocado sushi in the middle of that. The rest of team Babycakes is pretty well rested, too.

Erica's tired, of course, but more than sane.

So, in short, we live another day!

This morning after massage and more smoothie we're going to check in with Erica's doctor, and then probably do more walking to activate the labor.

Thanks for your great comments and emails and texts. :)

(8:01 AM, Friday morning, April 22nd)

Team Babycakes

Team Babycakes is Maggie Fancher, Laura Tabet, Sarah Danilovich, and the two of us. Those ladies are on the scene at our house right now (time: 10:45PM).

What a crew! I thought we were laughing during the day, but now we're really laughing . . . in between contractions, of course. :)

Erica's contractions have been quite a bit stronger for the past two and a half hours. Her cervix is dilated 1 to 1 1/2 centimeters and holding steady at the moment.

In the Team Babycakes huddle the conversation is, what next? Now that night is upon us, sleep (as so many of you know) starts to become a factor because this will likely go deep into the night. So we're talking scenarios.

One thing seems certain: Erica would like to stay at home as long as possible.

Let's see how it goes!

The Laughter

What's defined this day besides contractions?: laughter.

There has been a lot of laughter coming out of the Booster and all of her supporters.

Why? Because Erica's funny that's why. She makes us funny, too, and makes us laugh.

The latest news is we're just working with the labor. It's progressing, deepening, slowly but surely.

Thanks for keeping us in your hearts.

Walk It Out, Baby

P60

It's 2:50PM and we just got back from another walk with Laura, this time in the neighborhood.

The process is deepening for Erica, but not yet definitively. She's feeling out, with our help, whether more activity or deeper silence will be most helpful. (Overall, she's in a good place - not distressed.)

Sarah D will be arriving any minute to help feel that out.

Thanks for all your emails and texts. I read them to Erica at choice times. :)

The Perfect Sunday

Here are some of the pictures from our maternity photo shoot at 37 weeks. Now at the end of my 39th week, I cannot believe how much bigger my belly is in comparison! The day that we took these photos was a spectacular Sunday. It was sunny and warm with a perfect California breeze. After the shoot we hopped in the car and spontaneously decided to drive to Muir Beach in Marin. We laid in the sand and looked out at the ocean. Brooks was curled up for a while with his eyes closed and I described to him many of the wonderful characters around us... silly pooches, parents herding kids, flirting youngsters... As usual we laughed a ton. I felt so relaxed and happy. A perfect day. p.s. Thank you to Bamu for the photo shoot! Such a fantastic gift :)
